So things have been pretty crazy in the Shauna Buck house over the last year, and there are a million updates and fun projects to post about in the coming weeks. But first! In a fun way to kick off an already busy 2014, I am lucky enough to have a show at the Void gallery, which is a little gem of a space run by some superbly wonderful folk! If you are in the neighbourhood or are looking for a little something to do on a chilly Saturday afternoon, pop by and say hello :) And maybe check out a few of the works while at it :P Hope to see you there and Happy Friday!

Oh hey there.. It's been awhile

Well.. it has been one super crazy year and there is such a back-log of posting to be done!
It feels like, "what hasn't happened this year?" and where do I begin??? So many sales and experiments, a new jewelery line, a move to a new house in time for the holidays, a letterpress purchase and just for kicks, my partner in crime (Stefan) and I went and tied the knot and then traipsed off to Spain for a honeymoon! But we'll fill in all those details later :P
This past weekend Flock and Gather had our first official Christmas Sale and boy was it a doozy! Balloons, cookies, tons of vendors from all over and a great turn out! I got to design the poster again it was a blast as usual! :D Everyone worked sooo hard and the results were amazing! So thanks to everyone who participated and also to those who came out to attend!
And as for myself, I did a couple of little paintings over the last couple of weeks.. the start of a new series I think. Here's a wee peak!
Happy winter everyone!

Mmmmmmm...

Yum Yum Yum Yum Yum.....
The other day, I stumbled across the photos Stefan took for this awesome cake I made over the holidays and they were too fun not too share! The recipe for this Vanilla Snowflake Cake came in a sweet Kraft magazine that surprises us every once in a while by arriving in our mail! Its super easy and was a huge hit when we brought it to a dinner party! The white chocolate snowflakes were a bit fiddley but a fun challenge :P
With marshmallows and hot chocolate it was soooo good for an indulgent, wintery day!

The Traveling Sketchbook: 2

Wellety, wellety...
A few weeks ago I kissed my book goodbye and sent it off to see the world!
Since there are lots of people who won't be able to see in on tour, I thought I'd share some "wee moments" from the sketchbook I submitted
to Art House Co-op's sketchbook project! For the project I took apart the book and made it into a concertina format so it opens up into one giant long image. I really like those for some reason :P I filled it up with lots of sketches, and it became a bit of a stream of consciousness for all my thoughts on home and what it means :P The back side is a suuuuper neon green with bits of text that kept popping up in my mind :P
It was a barrel of monkey's fun and I got to try lots of new techniques and transfers that I don't normally use for sketchbooks!
Now, the scans came out a bit green, but no worries!
The full book will be digitized and online
through the sketchbook project site in the next few weeks! In the meantime, the tour has officially kicked off this past week in Brooklyn! Check out the dates and locations
to see if its swinging by a city near you and if so - go take a peak! If anyone gets a photo with my book, I'd love to see it!!!

The Travelling Sketchbook!
Ohhh-Kay!!! There is some seriously overdue blogging to be done here!!So to kick it off, some of you may have noticed the link off to the right for the Sketchbook Project :P I signed up for this project as a sweet way to self motivate (and get a rockin' shirt :P ) waaaay back in September/ October and now my book is filled and gone! Just like that :P
The project was tons of fun - with lots of experimentation! (Really the best part of keeping a sketchbook :P)
It will be travelling around the US and finding an eventual home in the Brooklyn Art Library. The happiest surprise was looking at the tour locations and realizing that there are people I know in a few of them that I can wrangle into checking it out! Fuuuuuuun!!!!
I'm super excited to post the photos of the book as soon as their done being edited! And check out the link to find out more about the project and other fun things in the works by ArtHouse Co-Op!!!
Exciting!

New illustrated MAGNETS! For the CFCR Craftacular, Oct 29th and 30th!!!
So in preparation for this, earlier this week I decided to try my hand at casting resin to make some magnet sets. I've always wanted to make magnets, but something sturdier then the flat type. Word of advice: the fumes are REALLY awful. I would even say dangerously so in a small apartment, that first day, I had to take a loooong walk and leave all the windows open. :P
But! The results were worth it! Suuuuper fun and I am so excited to make more! Unfortunately, I made a silly mistake with some glue and ruined about 50% of the batch last night. Of course. Right before their festival premier today. Ah well. You win some you loose some, and now I know what NOT to do on the next round! And I can't wait to try again!!

Fringe Madness!!
Hello all,
This week has been hectic and full of creative fun. The Saskatoon Fringe Festival started up Thursday the 29th, and is running until Saturday the 7th!! My boy-wonder fiancee Stefan and I are both participating, me with a smorgasbord of adorable goodness, and him with some seriously stellar photography that will wow the eyes! Needless to say the lead up caused our household to be thrown into creating chaos , with supplies and creations covering all surfaces and even creeping up the walls. :P Full pictures of this megalithic mess, our booth, as well as new work, will be posted later in week or early next, following a bit of recovery death-nap :P If you're in town, Come check us out down on Broadway!!
Also, be on the lookout for another download-able desktop from yours truly, coming up this week with Erika Brouwer's newly updated "Canvas Collective" site! Lots of fun and busy, busy, busy!!!!

Mmmmmm Summer
Today is a GORGEOUS day in Saskatoon! The perfect sort of early summer day that is breezy, juuuust hot enough for shorts and skirts and perfect to sit outside with a mojito and watch the plants grow. In this lazy summer frame of mind I thought I'd post a glimpse of my first home silk-screening results! Ta-Da!!!! A BBQ-ready shark! Outfitted in cheerful summer yellow or red and spatula at the ready, these bizarre summer flavoured prints will be up for sale soon at the Saskatoon Fringe Festival and maybe online as well!
Enjoy the day everyone!

Free Wallpaper!!!

My super awesome Friend Erika Brouwer, (Graphic Designer Extraordinaire), recently created a magical place called Canvas, and it is a place where brand spanking new download-able desktops are available every week by a new artist!
With my week fast approaching I found myself stumped. Quite thoroughly. So with 2 days left to go and surrounded by half-finished and discarded ideas, I decided just to let my creative slump have its way.
Check out all the fun work available from a barrage of truly talented peeps.

Ooooooh! New Stuff!

Well. Here's a little preview of a new experiment started in the winter months. What began as a decorative owl, floating around became.... snubbed? For some reason, an owl who would rather stare at a tree then make up seems hilarious to me. And I guess a bit unfortunate for the other owl.
Them's the breaks kid.

Work it out Little Mama
Well, yesterday's refreshing change in the weather has inspired me to start tackling some of those long overdue items that didn't seem appropriate during the winter months. So in a fit of feel-good spring spirit, I decided to get some exercise! And finally draw that random picture of Jane Fonda I'd been talking about for a while now. :P And since Jane Fonda work-outs were the soundtrack to my youth, it was a pleasantly random afternoon that reminded me of home :D

Love is in the Air
Both the bride and groom to be love to travel, and are using destinations as table indicators instead of numbers, which suits them to a tee - and inspired me to use vintage city maps as the decorative element to their invites - add some bold, youthful fonts and a healthy dose of thematic green; and voila! A funky fold-out invite held together with a dramatic (and informative!) sleeve.
And after all is said and done... 110 invitations, hand cut and assembled in stacks of 10 :)I'm looking forward to posting this on my website in the upcoming updates!
